  can: できる（実証していない場合も含む）
  be able to: できる（実証済み）

  couldは過去能力を持っていた場合であり、That child could play the piano.
  couldは過去と言うより仮定法のニュアンスでやっていない可能性が大きい
  過去実際実施したときは was(were) able to　を使わなければならない、あるいはただの過去、I caught the last train.
   That child was able to play the piano.

■ would
  Willより丁寧語/弱意であり、確率の低さをあらわす。通常現在で使われwillの過去形ではない。（mightの兄弟）
   I would go. I would go if I had time. <> I will go.
   Would you like some drink?
   Would you mind if I asked you to work today?
   He wouldn’t come. <> He won’t come.
  willの過去形の場合は過去の強い意志
   She would do the work.
   彼女はどうしてもその仕事をやろうとした。
  過去の不規則な習慣　= used to
   He would often play tennis.
   彼は、以前よくテニスをしたものだった。

■ will/be going toの違い
  will < going 確度の高さ
   I will/(m going to) go to Hawai. 予定です（will:つもり、going:すでに決まっている）

■ may/mightの違い
  may > might 確度の高さ
   That may/might be him. かも知れない(may:50%,might:30%)
   May I?　してもよいですか？(mayは"よい"という意味がある、確度が高い)

  - dare　あえてする
   She dare do that. （助動詞）= She dares to do that. （一般動詞）
   She dared not do that. = She didn’t dare to do that.
   Dare she do that? = Does she dare to do that?
   How dare you tell her such a thing.  よくも図々しく～ができるものだな

  - need
   やや硬めの表現方法で、おもにイギリスで使われる
   You need not talk about it.  = You don’t have to talk about it.
   Need I do that?    Yes, you must. /  No, you need not.
   I need not have attended the meeting. 私は会議に出席する必要がなかった（実際は参加した）

  - shall  するつもり
  - should  した方が良い、すべき（主観的）
  - must  しなｋればならない、～に違いない
  - have to  しなければならない
  - ought to すべき、～のはず（客観的）
  - had better すべき、やれ
  - used to  よくしたものだ
